CompuMed, Inc.
CompuMed,
Inc. was formed in 1988 in response to a family need concerning medication
management and compliance (see
Grandma's
story).
The company is privately held and has a great startup story to tell.
CompuMed started the personal medication management industry. Prior to
CompuMed's introduction, the only medication management products on the
market were pill organizers - flip-tops and dosettes. Now, a range of
products serve the needs of nearly everyone taking medication.
Our factory is located in Meeteetse, Wyoming. You ask, "Where is Meeteetse,
Wyoming?" Some friends from Switzerland can answer that question. Here's
their story:
Several years ago at a medical trade show in Atlanta, Georgia, we met a
couple from Switzerland. They were looking for new products to introduce in
Switzerland and took our product literature with them. Nearly a year passed
before we heard from them again. They sent a letter by fax informing us of
interest in CompuMed in Switzerland and Germany. They also let us know they
had business in both New York and Los Angeles and could we "stop by and see
them." Now, to some from Europe, the U.S. "neighborhood" is bigger than they
realize.
Well, we faxed a letter back to them letting them know that Meeteetse was
right between New York and Los Angeles and they should "stop by and see
us." As further encouragement, we included information about Yellowstone and
Cody and Jackson Hole, Wyoming, all of which are located near Meeteetse.
They ended up seeing us and spending a week in the area and thoroughly
enjoyed it.
Since then, we've had business dealings in both Europe and Asia and so we
say, when asked where Meeteetse, Wyoming is, "It is right between New York
and Los Angeles and equi-distant from the European and Asian markets."
We have the great fortune to be where we choose to be. CompuMed is located
in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains near Yellowstone National Park. As
an added incentive, Wyoming has a great business climate with no corporate
or personal income taxes.
The Medication Management industry is growing rapidly. We no longer do
"missionary work" on the problem of medication noncompliance as we did ten
years ago. Now, the problem of medication noncompliance is recognized and
understood. No longer is it just a matter of "explaining it better" or
better "education" of the patient. Caregivers and payors are looking for
cost effective solutions and often turn to CompuMed when medication
compliance is important. |
